Bealtaine Events at the NLI for May

During May, the Library will host several free events to celebrate Bealtaine, Ireland’s biggest collaborative arts festival focusing on creativity in older age.  Go behind the scenes, learn about the collections and hear more about our range of services, exhibitions and events.

What better way to celebrate Bealtaine than with a guided tour of the life and works of William Butler Yeats followed by afternoon tea in the Joly café (10% discount in the café).

Join one of the library’s conservators for this workshop on caring for your paper-based collections. Aimed at the amateur collector/family historian, this is an opportunity to share and discuss issues around conservation and to learn how best to look after your own collection.Free but booking required. Sharing memories of the John F Kennedy visit to Ireland

Thursday, 30 May 10am – 4pm

You are invited to step back in time and share your memorabilia of the visit of John F Kennedy to Ireland. The National Library will scan and ‘pin’ the images, along with your memory of the event to the John F Kennedy visit to Ireland channel on Historypin,  an online history and map site. All items are returned after scanning. Please indicate your interest in this event by making an advance booking email: learning@nli.ie

Samuel Beckett Summer School

The Samuel Beckett Summer School celebrates Beckett with a week long series of lectures, seiminars, field trips, exhibits and performances. This year the acclaimed contemporary company Pan Pan Theatre are performing the world exclusive of the Beckett play ‘Embers’ during our Summer School!
